What a shit film.
Hier werden die als Helden dargestellt die Unmengen an Kriegsverbrechen begangen haben da die französische Regierung fein weg gesehen hat was ihr Kanonenfutter tat. Vergewaltigung, töten von Kindern und Hilflosen und das in einem nie gekannten Ausmaß. War ja aber nicht so schlimm, ging ja nur gegen die Deutschen und brach deren Moral. Heute sind sie wieder in Deutschland.
The movie should be renamed as Days of Glory Holes.
Ridicule, aucune crédibilité, aucun réalisme…

I saw this movie for the first time when I was maybe 9 years old at my Grandmother’s house. Her husband, my grandfather, was at Normandy. I had never seen a movie in which the protagonist didn’t win. I was absolutely stunned by this ending.
Yes, especially when it was such a big star as Frank Sinatra. Apparently he insisted on the character being killed as the original story had him surviving. It definitely made for an unforgettable ending!

Good upload :) I was about to ask the same question about the chic but the Italian fellow beat me to it lol! I LOVE the 60s war shows/movies as there was a war going on in 1967! I liked it when yhe German guy threw himself on the grenade to save the chic :) I also liked the cpmbat scenes!
It's a silly series but loads of fun, as so many back then were - my favourite period for war movies and TV series in fact! I'm glad you liked it!
Those were the days my friend; I thought they'd never end... But they did. Fortunately we have channels like this to keep the gunpowder dry and the memories fresh.

Look up why those gas cans are called "Jerry" cans.
And I've used real army surplus jerrycans. There's no way you'd stick a knife through one of those things. They were made of heavy-gauge steel and built for rough handling and re-use.
I know that gasoline is explosive, but I'm not sure that if poured into desert sand, that the wick would burn as efficiently as it seemed to here. But as you say... don't take it too seriously.

Cool series... I have it on DVD. This one and "Combat" were favorites growing up. My parents thought I was watching Sesame Street. But I must say, I don't think I've EVER liked a girl enough to jump on a grenade for her. Maybe yell "DUCK," but that's about it.
It's a very silly series but a lot of fun, as long as you don't take it too seriously!

@@thesixshooter6506 It was cancelled in the UK after just 6 or 7 episodes as all the veterans of the desert campaign were complaining to the BBC that it ignored the British and made it look like it was all the Americans in the desert, and it also made the Germans look like idiots (which to be fair they were correct in!)!

The reality that over 70% of France capitulated and lived under a Vichy government working hand in hand with the Germans always gets glossed over. As does the fact the French police arrested more Jews than the Gestapo did in Occupied France. Most of France went untouched by war.
Yet they all came out bravely to fight the women that had dared to go out with a german soldier once the germans had left

Hitler ordered Paris to be razed to the ground when the allies came closer. Luckily, this order was not carried out since the german city commander deemed this pointless (plus he actually liked the city).
And probably knew the war was lost and how he would be judged by history.
